THE STATE OF IDAHO
When considering Idaho, take a quick look at several of the percentages of Evangelical Christians in locations where many of our churches will spend their resources on overseas missions:
Haiti – 17.5%
Belize – 24%
Nigeria – 26%
Kenya – 45.6%
China – 7.6%
The percentage of evangelical Christians in Idaho is no higher than 5.7%.
How can we as Christians and churches in good conscience ignore the very mission field that is in our own backyard?
Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Whether Idaho is your Jerusalem, Judea, or Samaria, as Christians, we are called to be witnesses of the Gospel there. One of the largest deficits faced in Idaho is that no one is aware of the desperate need for a true Gospel witness. Utah makes sense to many Evangelical Christians as a mission field because of its LDS (Mormon) population. Sadly, Idaho is one of the most overlooked mission fields, and yet Eastern Idaho has a majority LDS population and is one of the most spiritually dark places in the world. Of significant note is that very little effort is being made, even within church-planting networks, to advance the Gospel in Idaho. We want to change that!
